Many people have LOTS of trouble finding a reason to get started in wanting to begin their weight loss journey. There are many who think they cannot do it, have no will power, and lack desire...well, I know what that is like because I have been there MANY times. Here is a page especially dedicated to helping people with motivation issues!!!
1. Discipline. Everyone always says..."How do you stay motivated?" Well, there is one thing that people need to learn about weight loss...it is sometimes 100% discipline, commitment, and effort. There are always going to be "temptations" EVERYWHERE around us. There is always going to be those friends that want us to go out to eat, there are always going to be those billboards with uber juicy burgers when we drive along the highway, there are always going to be those moments that cross your mind..."Why not just one bite?" For nearly everyone who is overweight...they are ALWAYS going to be a fatty on the inside (at least I am!). So one of the most important things to do is to realize that weight loss is no walk in the park! It takes discipline to keep going and it's not all fun and games. There are times when you can make weight loss fun, but there will ALWAYS be those temptations in our life.
2. Dare to START or you will never finish! I remember those days when I would wake up and swear that I was not going to mess up. I would be like "today is the day I'm going to start my new life!"...then in about ten or fifteen minutes I would reach for the sausage rolls and donuts on the counter for breakfast. I would say "well, I'll start tomorrow, I already messed up." Then since I was planning on starting the next day...I would just eat whatever I wanted for the rest of the day. I have been through that vicious cycle many many times before I FINALLY decided to buckle down and lose some freaking weight! My best advice is this: If you are going to start, START NOW! Seriously, whether it is the morning, mid-day, evening, or midnight...just do it! Whether you ate thirty Krispi Kremes this morning or haven't eaten a thing...just MAKE THAT CHANGE AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!! NOW!!!!
3. Make workouts and eating FUN! Yeah, I said it! Weight loss can be uber fun! If you learn to make new recipes using your meal guidelines, it can be fun to experiment! There are TONS of variations with the high protein lifestyle, low-carb, ANYTHING! If you actually make good food, you will enjoy eating even if it is healthy. For more advice about nutrition and recipes, just check out my nutrition page! Okay so workouts can be fun too! One of my favorite things to do is to workout with friends. If there is no one around, listen to music! Music always gets me pumped and keeps my mind in the game when I am feeling like a hamster on a wheel on that elliptical machine! Hahahaha! Another thing you could do is to NOT skip workouts...once you skip one time, it will become a habit. Like good old Aristotle says: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." Now I know that guy is pretty smart, so if you don't like my advice...maybe you would take his! Find activities you like to do as well and JUST DO IT! Working out will make you feel good no matter how many pounds you have to lose! Getting pumped?! Then close your laptop or shut down your computer and get to the freaking gym!!!!
One trick I've used is to post pictures of girls that I want to look like in my room, around the house, etc.! Sounds crazy, but it works!
